Reducing the scaring on my 3 year old after stiches??

My daughter got bit in the face by a dog 2 weeks ago today. She had almost 30 stiches. The stiches came out last week. It is closed and I am putting bacetracin on it to keep it moist. The plastic surgeon told me not to put mederma or anything like that on it for 6 weeks! Do I really need to wait that long? She also told me it is important to not let her get any sun on her face for a while. She told me to use SPF 50 on her face for a while, but I can't put anything on it for 6 weeks. I think I'd actually be scared to put sunscreen on it now. She is going back to daycare on Monday and they go play outside. What should I do? She can't be in the sun, but I don't wnat her to feel leftout. Thanks for your help!
Answer:
Go out and stock up on some of those big , floppy sunhats that completely shade the face so that your daughter can still go to school. Make sure your daycare knows about the instructions its possible that the can help by limiting outside time. Follow your doctor instructions about what to put on your daughter's face- you don't want to cause any adverse reactions. You want your daughter to heal properly before you worry about scarring! I'm so glad she survived her attacka dn wish you luck in the future
This is a really old remedy but it works great. Stick a pin in a capsule of vitamin E and then put it on her scar once a day (assuming the wound is closed). It will reduce scarring a lot along with the other advice.
The absolute best thing you can do is wash the area with a good herbal soap. Then pat the face dry as rubbing causes excess scarring. Then if you have one or can get a large indoor 'aloe vera' plant, cut off a small piece, carefully trim the spiked edges off and peel back the leaf. Smear the aloe vera gel on the affected area and do this every day. Let it stay on all day. Aloe vera is used in hospitals the world over for burn patients to alleviate and in some cases make the burn scarring disappear.
Try putting vitamin E cream on the scar. It will help keep the skin moist and it will help reduce the scar's appearance. I got this information from a Plastic surgeon when I had something done. It worked for me. Apply the cream to the scar with a clean Q-tip so you won't contaminate the tube between applications. Yes, keep her out of the sun, because its rays will only make the scar appear worse.
scare reducing cream. there are products out there that reduce scaring. this also helps take away stretch marks on the belly after having a baby. on the TV show , it was said that almost everyone has a myth way of getting rid of a scare and reducing stretch marks, However the only real way is to use some scare reducing cream. also that you will want to research the ones that work and dont work good.
Neosporin is great at reducing scarring also but not until your doctor agrees to it. If your doctor says no sun, then do as you were told, as your doctor knows best. When in doubt, call your doctor. Sorry about your little girl's dog bites. While at daycare, tell those in charge that your little one has to be in the shade when going outside, until further notice. Make sure they hear you!!!
I wouldn't put mederma on it for 6 weeks or so because you want the injury to finish healing, but you can put vitamin E oil on her or cocoa butter now that would be good since she has her stitches out now, and I'm sure that sunscreen probably would be OK. As far as daycare goes I would go ahead and let her play...just make sure they get some sunscreen on her before she goes out to play.
The plastic surgeon went through years of schooling for a reason! If he said not to expose the area to sun or apply creams or Oils to the area for six weeks there is a very good reason. UV Rays will cause the scar to appear more and you want the wound to heal completely before you go putting a bunch of crap into your child unhealed wound!! Listen to you doctor because he is a doctor for a reason !
