Rolled Ankle?

Ok so today i was playing basketball outdoor with my friends. And i ended up rolling my ankle really bad i heard a loud pop and hit the ground hard. But here is the thing ive been taking 500 mg painkillers for my back. So would that of helped any of the pain on my ankle or not. The pain is terrible i can hardly walk and it kills going up or down stairs and i can't jump. So do you think i need to go see a doctor or should i just take some ibuprofen every day and try to stay off it?
Answer:
go to the doctor and try to get some of the good pills. there even better if you dont need them.
I would see a doctor if the pain is as bad as you say, might have some ligament damage if you heard a pop. Might need a new prescription and some crutches.
You have a torn ligament which is otherwise called a sprain. Since you're walking on it it's probably not broken. But, sprains take a long time to heal. The longer you're off it the better and faster it will heal. If you do walk on it, brace it and you should use crutches. Then alternatively cold and heat to keep swelling down and to help blood circulate to help it heal. Doctor's going to tell you the same thing.
You should also consider that perhaps you sprained your ankle. Whether you sprained it or just rolled it, the course of treatments is pretty much the same. Take the Ibuprofen and do RICE, explained below. The early treatment of a ankle sprain is the "RICE" method of treatment. If you are unsure of the severity of your ankle sprain, talk to your doctor before beginning any treatment or rehab. The following is an explanation of the RICE method of treatment for ankle sprains:
Rest:
The first 24-48 hours after the injury is considered a critical treatment period and activities need to be curtailed. Gradually put as much weight on the involved ankle as tolerated and discontinue crutch use when you can walk with a normal gait (with minimal to no pain or limp). Ice:
For the first 48 hours post-injury, ice pack and elevate the ankle sprain 20 minutes at a time every 3-4 hours. The ice pack can be a bag of frozen vegetables (peas or corn), allowing you to be able to re-use the bag. Another popular treatment method is to fill paper cups with water then freeze the cup. Use the frozen cube like an ice cream cone, peeling away paper as the ice melts. Do NOT ice a ankle sprain for more than 20 minutes at a time!! You will not be helping heal the ankle sprain any faster, and you can cause damage to the tissues! How to ice an injuryCompression:
Use compression when elevating the ankle sprain in early treatment. Using an Ace bandage, wrap the ankle from the toes all the way up to the top of the calf muscle, overlapping the elastic wrap by one-half of the width of the wrap. The wrap should be snug, but not cutting off circulation to the foot and ankle. So, if your foot becomes cold, blue, or falls asleep, re-wrap! Elevate:
Keep your ankle sprain higher than your heart as often as possible. Elevate at night by placing books under the foot of your mattresses--just stand up slowly in the morning.
More severe ankle sprain injuries, including complete tears of the ligaments and fractures of the bone may need different treatment and rehab than a simple ankle sprain. It is important that you see your doctor before beginning treatment or if your symptoms do not steadily improve over time.
Differentiating between a sprained ankle and an ankle fracture can be difficult, and sometimes an x-ray is needed. While moderate pain and swelling are common symptoms following a simple sprained ankle, symptoms such as inability to place weight on the leg, numbness of the toes, or pain that is difficult to manage should raise concern. If you think you may have done more than sustained a sprained ankle, you should seek medical attention.
You need an xray and a doc exam. There you will find out what has happened to your ankle and also get pain relief without the risk of OD on tylenol.
I rolled my ankle a year ago playing volleyball and it was horrible. Go to the hospital and get an xray, to be sure that its not broken. Despite what people might think, it is possible to walk on a broken ankle. My mother did it for three days until she couldn't take the pain. Also, a sprain is NOT a torn ligament. If you had a torn ligament, you would know it. I tore my ACL in my knee, and i nearly passed out from the pain.
To recap, you should get an xray to make sure its not broken.
Painkillers distribute throughout your whole body so take what you need for whatever, but depending on your plans for you ankle, here are some suggestions (I play football I had to fight through a few of these: depending on how fat your ankle is (size of a softball, probably is broken, %26 very unlikely you could walk) you could go to the doctor where they would only diagnose the severity of the problem and give their own recommendations. Ice no matter what ( a bucket of ice water works the best). If you want to get back to normal as soon as possible, the best thing to do is just walk it off, and try not to limp, you can wear a brace for the 1st few days but no crutches. Elevation also helps reduce swelling.
